A stunning seven-bedroom home in California designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright is for sale for $4.25 million
One of Frank Lloyd Wright’s exquisitely designed homes is now on the market California and can be yours for $4.25 million.
The Fawcett House, a seven-bedroom, six-bathroom home located in California’s Central Valley, was recently listed and is perfect for those who like to mix indoor and outdoor living.
“We no longer have outside and inside as two separate things. Now the outside can come in, and the inside can go out and out,” the famed architect said of the house, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.

The home, located 120 miles southeast of San Francisco, is one of many designed by the architect, whose projects have been praised for their open and light concepts.
Other Wright-designed properties sold for between $725,000 and $7.95 million.
Los Banos House is located on 76 acres of land in the Central Valley and in 2019 won California Design Preservation Award for Restoration.
However, it almost did not materialize.
After the landowner, Buck Fawcett, offered Wright the lot, the architect said he didn’t want to do it: “There’s not much beauty there.”
“Actually, Mr. Wright, California’s Central Valley has some of the most fertile farmland in the world, and you should consider it an honor to build a home there,” Fawcett replied.
Wright’s interest was piqued, and it ended up being one of the few houses set on open acres of land that the architect designed during his lifetime.

Home almost didn’t happen, as Wright initially said he didn’t see “a lot of beauty” there

“Actually, Mr. Wright, California’s Central Valley has some of the most fertile farmland in the world, and you should consider it an honor to build a home there,” said the land owner.
The magnificent home is also considered one of the finest examples of Wright’s signature Usonian home.
The term refers to the sixty middle-income houses designed by Wright.
Usson homes are typically smaller, often one-story properties without a garage.
They are mostly L-shaped to fit around a garden terrace and rely on solar heating and natural cooling, which means more windows and doors.
“A strong visual connection between indoor and outdoor spaces is an important characteristic of all Usonian homes,” California Preservation Foundation notes.
That was the intention, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.
“They are apart from each other. Form and function thus become one in design and execution when the nature of materials, method and purpose are all in unison, Wright said.

Property photos shared this week on Zillow Gone Wild, a social media page that highlights interesting and sometimes hilarious listings.
The photos clearly show the abundance of natural light that the home sees from its many windows.
The house has large, open spaces and long narrow ones, all anchored by light.
Built in 1955, it caught the attention of some social media users who were taken by the beauty of the house, as well as the huge number of windows.
“So if I buy this house does that mean I have to stop throwing rocks?” one man joked.
“Love everything about it, but someone else is going to have to clean all those windows and glass doors!!” someone commented.

Wright is often considered one of the greatest American architects of all time.
The designer died in 1959 at the age of 91.
His illustrious career included 1,100 designs and over 500 projects.
Eight of his buildings have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as cultural sites – perhaps the most famous of these is the Guggenheim Museum on Fifth Avenue in New York.
More than a third of Wright’s remaining 409 buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places or are located in the National Historic District.

Perhaps the most famous private creation, Fallingwater outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was once named “the greatest piece of American architecture of all time” by the American Institute of Architects.
The house was built for the Kaufman family, who owned the largest department store in Pittsburgh, in the 1930s.
The house is spectacularly situated atop a living waterfall in a wooded area.
Millions have visited the house since it was opened to the public nearly 60 years ago.
