Selma CA police officer charged with murder

According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Nathaniel Dixon, 23, has been charged in the killing of a Selma police officer on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

The Fresno County District Attorney has filed criminal charges against a man accused of murder Selma policeman Gonzalo Carrasco Jr., who is charged with first degree murder, possession of a firearm and accessories by a felon.

Nathaniel Dixon is accused of fatally shooting Carrasco, 24, on Tuesday when an officer was responding to a suspicious person call in the 2600 block of Pine Street, west of Highway 99.

Carrasco was trying to talk to Dixon when police said he was shot several times by the defendant. According to the police, Carrasco did not have a chance to shoot back.

Dixon, who previously convicted of crimesis scheduled to be arraigned Friday at 8:30 a.m. in Department 31 of Fresno County Superior Court.

He is charged with first degree murder, as well as the penalty for using a gun and causing death. The special circumstance and extension of the policeman’s murder are also incriminated.

Dixon is also charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a handgun.

If convicted on all counts and charges, Dixon, 23, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. The prosecutor’s office is now considering these possibilities.
