The FDA has approved an over-the-counter test that detects 3 viruses
The FDA has approved a non-prescription test that detects COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus or RSV.
The test, made by Labcorp, is the first of its kind that does not require a prescription.
Patients self-sample a nasal swab at home and then send the sample to Labcorp for analysis.
Users will be able to access and see their results through the online portal.
People will receive the test results about a day or two after the lab receives the sample, NBC News reports.
The test will be available online and in stores.
Other tests that detect multiple respiratory viruses already exist, but patients should consult their physician for analysis.
The FDA says a Labcorp home test will help people easily determine if they are infected with any of the three viruses, which will help them determine whether to quarantine them or isolate themselves.
