Two rescued from a boat that crashed into the cliffs of Alcatraz in California

Two people and three dogs required rescue Saturday, Nov. 26, after their boat ran into rocks on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay, California firefighters said.

California firefighters said a boat crashed into rocks off Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay, trapping two people and three dogs.

The San Francisco Fire Department and a US Coast Guard helicopter rescued the people and dogs from the vessel after the accident at 9:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, fire officials said on Twitter.

Firefighters report that the boat “frozen on the rocks” as a result of the accident, but did not sink.

About an hour later, firefighters said the man and woman on board were safe, as were the dogs, and they were working with the owner on plans to recover the boat.

No one was injured in the accident.

Alcatraz Island, once upon a time at home in a federal prisonis now a tourist attraction managed by the National Park Service.
