A 25-year-old woman was killed early Sunday after she crashed her car into a traffic light pole in Carlsbad, officials said.

The collision occurred just before 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of El Camino Real and Camino Vida Roble, Lieutenant Jason Djakowski said in a statement.

The woman was driving north on El Camino Real when a car crashed into a pole on the northeast curb. Jacob said the vehicle may have been driving at excessive speed.

The woman was trapped in her car and had to be rescued by Karlobad firefighters, Dzhakovsky said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Karlovy Vary police are investigating the incident. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
