A red panda climbed a tree to escape its habitat at the San Diego Zoo before being lured back hours later, California authorities say.

A red panda climbed a tree to escape its enclosure at the San Diego Zoo, prompting hours-long efforts to lure it back to its habitat, news outlets reported.

Adira, a 2-year-old red panda, broke out of her cage on Sunday, Jan. 29, climbing a tree at a nearby residence, KFMB reports.

Zoo visitor Alison Fortson told USA Today that Adira used to come down from the tree periodically. get scared and scramble back out of reach.

Zoo officials closed part of the park earlier managed to lure Adira returned to her place of residence, reports KNSD.

Odira, who shares its habitat with three other red pandas spent about six hours in the tree, officials told KGTV. The safety of the habitat is currently under review.

There are red pandas bamboo eaters native to the high mountain forests of Asia, according to the Smithsonian Zoo. Despite their name, they are not close to giant pandas.

“Red pandas are skilled climbers, using trees for shelter to escape predators and sunbathe in winter,” the zoo said. They are usually solitary creatures.
