An 8-year-old boy is following in his father’s footsteps.
Sam Baker is attempting to become the youngest person to summit El Capitan in California.
“I’m just happy to climb with dad,” Sam said.
Yosemite National Park’s iconic vertical rock formation is over 3,000 feet tall. It is about 2.5 times higher than the Empire State Building.
“It will basically be hanging on your toes or hanging on your anchors for four days. “Basically, there are very few ledges, so we’re going to have to create portals that look like nylon cribs that hang on the side of the wall,” said Joe Baker.
Besides rock climbing with his dad, Sam said his favorite thing to do was eat lasagna in a hammock suspended thousands of feet in the air.
The entire Baker family is reportedly involved in rock climbing. Joe said CNN that his son was in a climbing harness “before he could walk.”
