An off-road driver who was off the highway knocked down and seriously injured a cyclist on Wednesday night in the Tory Highlands area of ​​San Diego, police said.

It happened around 5:25 p.m. near the bottom of the exit from Route 56 of the eastern state to Camino del Sur, at the SR-56 bike path crossing, San Diego Police Officer John Battle said.

According to Butl, the driver, an 80-year-old man driving a Volvo XC90 SUV, was turning right off the motorway exit onto the Camino Del Sur when he knocked down a cyclist. The rider was at a pedestrian crossing dedicated to a guarded bike path.

The victim, a 57-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries that included fractures of the pelvis and fifth lumbar vertebra, Battle said. Injuries are considered life-threatening.
