An Oceanside building that caught fire Saturday night was saved thanks to a fire sprinkler system, an Oceanside Fire Department spokesman said.

“This demonstrates the importance of having a fire protection system in place,” Battalion Chief Wes McGee said in a statement.

The fire was reported shortly after 8 p.m. at a building on Ocean Ranch Boulevard near Maritime Way. Once firefighters arrived, they deployed three more fire engines and a ladder truck to tackle the fire, for a total of 18 firefighters.

Items inside the business caught fire, McGee said, but the structure itself did not burn.

A damage estimate was not available, but officials said a pile of rags was among the items that caught fire.

According to Google, the business at this address is a uniform shop.

The department was still investigating the cause of the fire. No casualties have been reported.

Staff reporter David Hernandez contributed to this report.
