Andy Murray will meet his ‘heir’ Jack Draper in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters on Monday… as the Scot backs his 21-year-old opponent to become the ‘best, best player’ of all time’

  • British No. 4 Jack Draper has long been touted as Andy Murray’s heir apparent
  • The pair will meet in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters on Monday
  • Murray heaped praise on the 21-year-old ahead of their highly-anticipated clash

Andy Murray faces the future tomorrow night when he fights Jack Draper, the player is marked as his long-term successor.

The two will meet, for the first time in official competition, in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters California. Emma Radukanu will be looking to join one of them in the last 16.

The Brits, who are ranked 3rd and 4th in the world, are likely to be close. When they met at the Battle of the Britons in Aberdeen before that Christmasa partisan crowd pulled Murray to a 6-2, 1-6, 12-10 victory.

The Scot has long been a fan of the 21-year-old. He sees a big career for Draper, who defeated British No. 2 Dan Evans in the previous round.

“It’s going to be a good match, he’s obviously playing very well,” Murray, 35, said. If he is healthy, he will be the best player for a long time.”

Murray’s chances improved when he won the match in straight sets. His victory over Radu Albat was the first time he had managed to do so in five months.

“If you’ve had a shorter match, there’s less pain, so it’s easier to sleep. The day off becomes a little more productive because there is less fatigue and soreness.

“You can probably practice with a little more intensity. When I got up this morning I had a little pain in my lower back which I don’t think will be gone by Monday.’

Raducanu is also looking for a boost and served as a reminder of her abundant ball-striking talent with a win over world number 21 Magda Linet. She now faces world number 13 Beatriz Haddad Mai from Brazil.

Raducanu continues to complain of wrist pain, although she hit the ball well in what was her best ranking win since her US Open triumph in 2021.

Cam Norrie has already made it to the round of 16 in Indian Wells. Last night he beat Japan’s Taro Daniel 6-7, 7-5, 6-2.
