Downtown Mission San Jose is a commercial neighborhood near Washington and Mission Boulevards that stands at the anchor of the San Jose Mission Historical Church and Museum. The Better Block Foundation and the City of Fremont are working to bring your ideas to life and make the San Jose Mission a brighter place to gather community.

The goal is to rethink Ellsworth Street, located between Washington and Mission Boulevards, as a bustling area that combines business and ambiance in a 2-day community-led space-building event in September 2022 that will help residents creatively approach their public space. Some potential changes may include art, greenery and landscaping, shade, small business and vendors, and opportunities for public gatherings, such as the open market. This test will help create a safe, welcoming space for all ages and backgrounds, and will incorporate Ellsworth’s modern vision as part of a thriving commercial district. In addition, we hope to test some ideas and get feedback that will be included in the long-term vision of the San Jose Mission.
