Buffalo Bills, NFL raises $ 400,000 to help local response to deadly shooting
The Buffalo Bills and the NFL are teaming up to do everything they can to help the community of upstate New York begin to heal after a deadly shooting committed by supporters of white supremacy in the black community. Funds are pooling to donate $ 400,000 to help local response efforts. The joint $ 200,000 will go to the Buffalo Together Community Responsibility Foundation, a new foundation that is a collaborative charity across the region that will address the immediate and long-term needs of our community, including systemic issues that have marginalized color communities. “On behalf of the Buffalo Together Community Responsibility Foundation, we are very grateful for the generous contributions from the Buffalo Bills Foundation and the National Football League Foundation that will allow us to create real change and emerge from the darkness of this heinous act,” said Clotilda Perez-Bode Dedecker, president and CEO of the Great Buffalo Joint Fund. “This foundation is a partnership that builds on a collective desire to act and work together as a community to address immediate needs, long-term recovery and systemic challenges that continue to marginalize color communities.” The other half of the funds will go to various nonprofits working to respond to emergencies to meet the immediate needs of East Side Buffalo residents. Some of the groups working with Bills and the NFL include Buffalo Go Green, the African Heritage Food Co-op, the WNY Resource Council and the UB Food Lab to organize home delivery for those who cannot come to the food distribution site. In a press release, Buffalo Bills said it plans to do more in the coming days and weeks to help the community recover and prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy.
