A California a family is grieving for their beloved eight-year-old labrador, who was killed after being shot nine times by a neighbor for running into his yard to chase a squirrel.
Marlon Caballero recently detailed a horrifying story about how his neighbor in Pomona shot their family dog Kanin nine times, even as he begged to save the animal.
In a recent interview, Caballero said the canine was playing on their property on Nov. 27 when the pet started chasing a squirrel around 1 p.m.
According to the owner, the animal accidentally jumped over the fence into the neighbor’s yard, and then the matter took a violent turn.

Marlon Caballero, 44, broke down in tears as he spoke to local media about the death of his family’s beloved pet, who was shot nine times by a neighbor
The dog, chasing a squirrel, accidentally jumped over the fence and got into the neighbor’s yard
The dog may have been unfamiliar with the landscape, as the family had just moved into the neighborhood a few weeks earlier.
“I go to the neighbor’s fence and call my Labrador to come over. I go from one side of the fence to the other side of the fence and suddenly I hear 3 shots,” Caballero wrote in Next door post
He said that when he looked over the fence, he saw his neighbor standing there with a gun and his Labrador wounded.
After hearing the first few shots, Caballero said he asked a neighbor to let the dog go so he could get help. The neighbor refused.
“I’m asking my neighbor, ‘Hey, please give me my dog, let me have my dog.’ I can save him if you give me my dog,” Caballero told a local shop.
Caballero said he immediately ran inside his home to call 911, and that’s when he heard more gunshots.
The man said he heard at least six additional gunshots after he returned to the street.

The neighbor reportedly shot the dog three times before Caballero began asking him to take it out of the yard. The neighbor refused, and Caballero said he continued shooting
“He goes to the back of his yard and basically unloads at least six more rounds from the revolver that I saw he had,” the animal’s owner said.
“And immediately my heart just broke. Only how could anyone do that [a] a dog,” he continued.
Caballero said in his post that he continued to ask to see his dog even after more rounds were fired. He said he can still hear his “best friend” whimpering.
The neighbor allegedly told Caballero, “no, your dog is already dead.”

“I bought this property solely for my dog to run free. It is impossible to imagine that this would happen,” Caballero said
To make matters worse, Caballero said he and his family chose the new home “solely” to give their dog more space.
“I bought this property solely for my dog to run free. It’s unimaginable for this to happen,” Caballero told Fox LA.
The family told the Southern California publication that they have since filed a restraining order against the neighbor and involved the police in the situation.
“It’s hard, I can’t even sleep at night just thinking about the little noise I hear outside… it’s hard,” Caballero said of the fear his family feels because their neighbor is armed and “dangerous”.
DailyMail.com reached out to law enforcement officials in Pomona but had not heard back by the time of publication.
“He’s gone,” Amanda Caballero said, fighting back sobs during the interview
“My heart broke into a million pieces. How can anyone be so cruel
