Cardi B disappointed in the way Madonna celebrated the 30th anniversary of Sex.

On Oct. 21, Madonna took to Instagram Stories to discuss the impact of her provocative 1992 coffee table book. sex, which she says helped pave the way for women in the entertainment industry to express their sexuality freely. She also released an album Erotica in the same year.

“30 years ago I published a book called ‘SEX’. In addition to pictures of me naked, there were pictures of men kissing men, women kissing women, and me kissing everyone. I also wrote about my sexual fantasies and ironically shared my perspective on sexuality,” she wrote. “I spent the next few years interviewing limited people who tried to shame me for empowering myself as a woman. I was called a harlot, a witch, a heretic and the devil.”

Her statement continued: “Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with a bare ass and Mile Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball. Following her latest statement with a clown emoji, Madonna added: “You’re welcome bitches.”

While Madonna’s influence on music and culture cannot be overstated, Cardi B felt the “Like a Virgin” singer’s performance was disrespectful. “I literally [paid] this woman gets honored so often because I grew up listening to her.” —Cardi B answered on Twitter. “She can get her point across without giving clown emoticons or losing her mouth… Those badges really become frustrating once you get into the industry, so I stay away”

Along with his tweet, the rapper shared a screenshot of an old quote on Instagram that gushed over Madonna. “I met my idol in real life, Madonna. I can’t even believe I performed at her event and it was the biggest performance ever,” Cardi B once wrote. “I grew up with my mom listening to Madonna for hours. I performed Material girl freshman year of high school, listened to it at all my photo shoots for super confidence and always mentioned it in my interviews. The best part about it is that she was everything I thought she would be as a liberal feminist bitch. I’m so happy.”
