Deadly shooting at Los Angeles home was ‘targeted attack’

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A weekend shooting that killed three women at a short-term rental home in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood was a targeted attack, the city’s police chief said Tuesday as investigators continue to search for suspects.

Four other people were wounded, two critically, when a shooting erupted at a property in the Beverly Crest neighborhood around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Chief Michelle Moore said detectives believe the shooting was “not in pursuit of a robbery or some random act, but instead a targeted attack and … a vicious act of violence and horrific death.”

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office on Sunday identified the victims as Ianna Hutton, 33, of Chicago; Nena Davis, 29, of Bolingbrook, Illinois; and Destiny Sims, 26, of Buckeye, Arizona.

Police officials said the three victims were in the vehicle when they were fatally wounded.

Moore said Davis was a single mother with three young children — an 8-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl. He said Simms also had three young children under the age of six. And Hutton was an aspiring actress, rap artist and music promoter, the executive said.

Investigators were trying to determine if the party was at the rented home or what type of gathering was taking place, officials said.

The age and gender of the injured were not released on Tuesday, nor was their condition.

The chief said the shooting “disrupted the sense of peace and tranquility in this neighborhood,” where large and expensive homes are nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains. The $3 million home is on a cul-de-sac and is described on online real estate platforms as modern and private with a pool and outdoor shower.

The shooting follows a Jan. 21 mass shooting at a suburban Los Angeles dance hall that left 11 dead and nine injured, and a Jan. 23 shooting at two Half Moon Bay farms that left seven dead and one wounded.
