Before her and Prince Philipa trip to San Francisco in 1983 one officer discovered a man who frequented a pub who ‘frequented [IRA] sympathizers” urged to threaten to kill the monarch by dropping an object onto the royal yacht from Golden Gate Bridge.

According to the memo, the officer claimed the suspect wanted revenge for his daughter’s murder Northern Ireland with a rubber bullet.

It said: “This man further claimed that he intended to cause harm Queen Elizabeth and would do so either by dropping some object from the Golden Gate Bridge onto Royal Yacht Britain if he swims under it, or tries to kill Queen Elizabeth when she visits Yosemite National Park.”

The FBI reported that before the royal visit in 1989 Kentucky State Police received “several anonymous threatening calls.”
