Declassified files reveal FBI warned of multiple death threats against late Queen from IRA supporters
Queen Elizabeth II received repeated death threats, often from IRA supporters, declassified FBI files show.
It meant US Service was always on high alert during her visits to the United States.
Before her and Prince Philipa trip to San Francisco in 1983 one officer discovered a man who frequented a pub who ‘frequented [IRA] sympathizers” urged to threaten to kill the monarch by dropping an object onto the royal yacht from Golden Gate Bridge.
According to the memo, the officer claimed the suspect wanted revenge for his daughter’s murder Northern Ireland with a rubber bullet.
It said: “This man further claimed that he intended to cause harm Queen Elizabeth and would do so either by dropping some object from the Golden Gate Bridge onto Royal Yacht Britain if he swims under it, or tries to kill Queen Elizabeth when she visits Yosemite National Park.”
The FBI reported that before the royal visit in 1989 Kentucky State Police received “several anonymous threatening calls.”

Another note said: “Possibility of threats against the British monarchy constantly present with the IRA.”
The 100 pages were released following a Freedom of Information request.
