A group of California A double amputee was shot and killed by police Thursday as he tried to flee from them on stilts after jumping out of his wheelchair.
Three officers from the Huntington Park Police Department were filmed firing at least eight shots at Anthony Lowe Jr., a 36-year-old father of two.
According to the police department, Lowe Jr. had just stabbed someone without provocation and was trying to run from two officers.
Video of the incident shows him standing in front of two officers next to his wheelchair, from which he jumped.

He turned and tried to hurry away from them, clutching a large butcher’s knife in one hand.
A second police car arrived, from which a third policeman got out. First, they hit him with a baton — which was “ineffective,” according to a police news release.
Within 15 seconds of the third officer’s arrival, they fired multiple shots, shooting Lowe in the upper torso.
When he was lying on the ground on his stomach, they put handcuffs on him.
“The suspect was hit at least twice by Huntington Park officers, but the Taser was ineffective.
“The suspect again attempted to throw the butcher knife at the officers, at which point an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Lowe Jr. later died at the scene. Now his family is demanding an answer from the Police Department.
The names of the officers involved have not yet been released. It is not yet clear whether they have been sent on vacation.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the incident, which comes three weeks after an unarmed 29-year-old Tyr Nichols was beaten to death by another group of police officers in Memphis, Tennessee.
“They killed my son in a wheelchair without legs. They need to do something about it,” his mother, Dorothy Lowe, said at a press conference on Sunday.
The family told The LA Times that he recently lost the lower half of his legs after another altercation with police in Texas.
