Police in California released video footage of a double amputee sneaking up and stabbing a man on the sidewalk moments before he was shot by police.

Anthony Lowe Jr., a 36-year-old father of two, jumped out of his wheelchair at a gas station before stabbing a man walking in front of him in the torso in Huntington Park.

The victim was found on a busy road immediately after the attack, after which the police were called to the scene.

The cause of the attack is not yet clear, although Lowe’s family revealed that he suffered from depression.

Additional footage taken from the gas station area has been released in the case of Anthony Lowe, the double amputee who was shot and killed by police

It shows Lowe getting out of his wheelchair and sneaking up on a pedestrian from behind, only to stab him in the torso without warning, leaving him critically injured

Lowe’s family expressed their dismay over the shooting, arguing that he did not pose a danger to officers because of his disability.

The family now plans to sue the police department and demand that the officers involved be held accountable.

Previously released footage showed Lowe walking away from police with a knife in his hand. The weapon was described as a 12-inch butcher knife.

Three officers are then seen trying to detain him as he hurriedly moves down the sidewalk.

At one point, Lowe turns to the officers, guns drawn, and raises a knife in what they take to be a threatening gesture, or perhaps he is preparing to throw an object.

It was at this moment that police officers shot him dead.

Huntington Park Police Chief Cosme Lozano released the new footage a week and a half after the shooting, but declined to comment on the progress of the investigation.

“I fully recognize the need for answers and the desire to rush to judgment, but we must allow peace and patience to guide us through this process,” Chief Lausanne said during a news conference.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an officer-involved shooting investigation.

So far, it has emerged how responding officers twice used a taser on Lowy, but it had no effect and he refused to drop the knife.

Lowe’s family insists the officers had alternative methods at their disposal that they could have used to subdue him without resorting to deadly force.

Attorney Annie Della Donna, who represents Lowe’s mother, suggested that officers could have used their vehicles to block him or used rubber bullets.

The attorney argues that the officers had many options other than shooting him in the street.

“They could rip the shields off their cars if they were afraid of getting stabbed. There are so many options other than execution in the streets.’ – said the lawyer.

“They killed my son in a wheelchair without legs. They need to do something about it,” his mother, Dorothy Lowe, said at a press conference last week.

“Nothing but truth and justice for my son. My son was killed,” she said.

“Anthony was a good man. He was always close to his family. He was our defender.

“I want to get the truth and justice because if anyone else had shot Anthony because he was disabled, they would be in prison right now for murder,” she added.

The family told LA Times that he recently lost the lower half of his legs after another altercation with police in Texas.

As a result of the injury, he lived with his mother.

She says that on the day he died, he told her he was going to McDonald’s.

Lowe had no criminal record in Los Angeles County, but was known to police for being arrested on April 20, 2021, on a 2007 warrant for robbery and petty theft.

All charges were dropped after a preliminary hearing two weeks later on May 4.

“I fully recognize the need for answers and the desire to rush to judgment, but we must allow calm and patience to guide us through this process,” Huntington Park Police Chief Lozano said during a news conference.
