A body-positive influencer has revealed how you can easily fake a hip split on Instagram with a simple pose, calling social media fake.

Dana Mercer Ritchie, who is from California but, while living in Florence, showed how you could model a “wider pelvis” and create the illusion of a completely different body simply by angling your legs differently.

The new mother, who welcomed her first child last month, took to Instagram, where she has more than 2.3 million followers, to urge viewers not to “panic” if their thighs “touch, rub or don’t spread in the mirror”. .

Sharing a clip on social media on Sunday, Danai showed what she looks like with and without the forced pose, showing just how believable it is for an influencer to distort her body in photos.

First, she filmed herself in the gym in shorts, posing in front of a mirror, with a clear gap between her legs.

But then the influencer relaxed, showing off a much more natural position, her thighs touching on top.

The post went viral with over 10,600 likes and fans were stunned by the difference.

Dana even explained how the unnatural look was achieved in the caption, writing: “Here I threw my pelvis back really hard to lengthen my legs, tighten my abs.

“I was rotating my knees and quads inward, doing both at the same time without breathing, and bam. Magic hip split. Wow.

“You can also do it while walking. Just move one leg out to the side instead of in front of you. It looks like a hip tear in the photo. It’s that simple.”

She lashed out at body image standards that make people think their natural body shapes aren’t good enough.

“Between the thighs. Lowering the hips. Heck, bikini breeches. All these things are fucking stupid,” she wrote.

“They depend on either genetics or just knowing how to work their angles. That’s all. That’s all.”

Dana emphasized that certain body features are not indicators of health, wellness or fitness.

“Just, you know, having a wider pelvis (hello, hip gap) than someone else,” she added. “Or knowing how to stick your hips out (yes, drop your hips) in a photo.”

The influencer urged her followers not to worry about their own features.

She wrote: “So the next time your thighs are touching or rubbing or not showing up in the mirror, please don’t panic. Don’t stress. Don’t let it get you down.

“Neither is mine. And that’s damn fine. Because health, fitness and well-being are far more important than whether or not we can see air between our limbs.”
