LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man who reportedly threatened violence has been arrested and investigators have found a stash of guns and ammunition in his Hollywood high-rise apartment where several rifles were pointed at a nearby park, police said Wednesday.

Officers responded to a report of a possible mental health situation Tuesday morning and went to a building on Gordon Street at Sunset Boulevard, police said in a statement.

Braxton Johnson, 24, was later taken into custody on suspicion of making criminal threats and remained in jail Wednesday on $500,000 bail, authorities said.

Police said Johnson was taken into custody after he allegedly threatened security officers inside the building and people outside with a gun.

Johnson lived alone in an 18th-floor apartment building with large windows that offered “an unobstructed view of the park and public spaces below, and some of the rifles were pointed outside the windows,” a police spokesman said at a news conference Wednesday.

Although Johnson was not armed, a search of his apartment turned up two assault rifles and magazines with high-capacity ammunition, which are illegal in California, police said.

Three pistols, a sniper rifle, a shotgun and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition were also seized, police said.

Johnson recently moved into an apartment. He was already under investigation in the East Coast state for a violent crime, police said. They did not immediately have other details.
