KIRA DAVIS: The Left’s Fantasy of Slavery Reparations Is a Hilarious Joke, an Insult to Every Black American

Ancestors of Black America turning over in their graves.

A California task force on “study and development of reparations”. nothing but a fool.

A 500-page mess of social engineering, vague definitions, and impossible costs designed not to address the important issue of racial wealth disparity, but to use handouts to hide the progressive left’s true cynical goal of power and control.

In essence, this proposal treats black people as infantilized, uneducated victims who certainly cannot be trusted with the tools to improve their own lives.

This is an insult. Mirage. Distraction.

First, the black community cannot even agree on the fundamental question of who should receive reparations.

I am a California resident and attended the last task force meeting which was marred by allegations of bias, discrimination and corruption.

Some advocated that all blacks, including immigrants and their descendants, receive reparations, while others argued that only black Americans, descendants of slaves, should be eligible.

Ultimately, the committee determined that black residents who were descendants of black slaves or “free black people.”[s] living in the United States until the end of the 19th century’ would qualify.

This superficial progress was seen as a victory, but when you scratch the surface, it is clear that they have done little to achieve the impossible dream of true racial reparations.

California's

California’s “reparations study and development” task force is nothing short of a mess. (Above) California Reparations Task Force meeting at the California Science Center in Los Angeles on September 22, 2022.

In fact, they may have placed it further.

Long ago freed American slaves were promised 40 acres and a mule as compensation for their pain.

Freed slaves, for the most part, found the offer acceptable. The reason for this is simple – the only way to avoid poverty is to accumulate wealth. Not in cash. Wealth. And wealth requires ownership.

Realizing this, our proslavery ancestors were content to work for their own families in pursuit of their own futures rather than continue forced slavery for the benefit of whites.

40 acres and a mule was what was promised, but not what they got. The rest is history.

But now we see that the original promise of black American ownership has also been lost, replaced by a horrific reparations task force maze of government committees, oversight, and social justice programs inspired by Black Lives Matter.

Should this committee be a model for reparations across the country?

What a joke.

Their report focused on relatively trivial issues such as climate racism, discrimination in the entertainment industry, and domestic violence fueled by perceived white supremacy.

Instead of focusing on the legacy of slavery and segregation, the committee devoted an absurd amount of attention to the health of black LGTBQ Americans.

In more than 400 pages of the document, we are told that black transgender “women” have “less access to health care” because of the “legacy of slavery.” Or that black LGBTQ Americans also have higher rates of diabetes, asthma, heart attacks and cancer

I haven’t interviewed every black man in America, but I can say with confidence – as a black man – that if you ask a random person of color on the street what the purpose of reparations is, no one would say it’s to compensate men who believe that they are women for their health.

But this report is more than funny – it’s dangerous.

The committee is pushing for the redistribution of California businesses and property allegedly stolen in “racial terror” — a ridiculously vague and pernicious idea.

This is reminiscent of the disastrous redistribution of agricultural land in Zimbabwe in the early 2000s. The Zimbabwean government confiscated farms from white landowners who had owned their property for generations and redistributed them to black farmers.

But agriculture was the foundation of the nation and is a precise and labor-intensive industry. Random redistribution put inexperienced farmers in charge of highly fertile lands. The economy collapsed and eventually the government was forced to admit that the whole scheme was a failure.

Would this type of redistricting mean the confiscation of land and businesses from their current owners in California if those people are not black?

Such a thought is deeply troubling as an American and as a decent human being.

There is also a recommendation to create more mandatory anti-bias curricula, which is already happening in California public schools. The so-called anti-racism training has already sparked outrage among parents of all races because of the entrenched discrimination against white students.

To be fair, not all recommendations are an intellectual stretch.

The call for reparations for housing discrimination and Jim Crow segregation is legitimate, but unfortunately not taken seriously.

The committee allocated a whopping $223,000 per person for housing alone. That’s over half a trillion dollars, not to mention what will inevitably be needed to fix the weird complaints about transgender diabetes and climate change.

California can’t afford it. The current state budget is 308 billion dollars and has a deficit of 25 billion dollars.

Clearly, the committee is far more concerned with social engineering and awakened virtue signaling than it is with creating self-sustaining black communities.

This is not what the forefathers of black America wanted. All they ever asked for was what they were owed: their land and compensation for their slavery to create wealth.

Instead, California’s vision of reparations is an unrealistic fantasy based on punishing “white criminals” by stripping them of their privileges – be it their property, wealth or status.

The reality is that if the fate of black Americans depends on the decisions of committees, they will never be free to solve their own problems – and that is exactly what the left wants.

Let’s Task Force Trillions – The head of the Department of African American Affairs/Friedman will become the most powerful political force in California. Another unelected, accountable bureaucrat. And all this time the scheme remains completely inaccessible.

The true way to correct the injustices suffered by black Americans would be to bring wealth and prosperity to all Americans.

Loosen the reins of burdensome laws and policies that hinder entrepreneurs, create business incubators in low-income areas, lower the cost and improve the quality of education, and support policies that promote the growth and preservation of the nuclear family.

But they won’t.

It puts the power in the hands of the people, and we the people are the last thing on the minds of the powerful elite who are all too accustomed to using the plight of black America as a political football.

Black America must not change one master to another.
