Later, Latto received the Powerhouse Award from 24-year-old Have Mercy singer Chloe Bailey.

Bailey, who collaborated with Latto on her 2022 track For the Night, called the singer “a force to be reckoned with, an icon for young women everywhere” and “the epitome of powerful strength”.

Meanwhile, Latto expressed her gratitude as she accepted the award: “Megan Tee Stallion got this award, Doja Kat got this award. It’s crazy because I’m a fan of my peers and they’re my peers now.”

“All the inspiring women who paved the way for me and all the women yet to come. I’m grateful to be a part of this new wave of female rap and baby, we’re kicking the door down and we’re not taking no for an answer.”

The star also performed with Billboard ahead of the red carpet event about what it means to receive a special honor.

“I like the weight of this award. I feel like it’s deeper than music. It’s like, “Are you the same off camera? What are you doing outside of music? What are you doing with your platform, with your success?”

She also talked about being on tour with Lizzo recently and being inspired by her.

“I just see how she treats people around her. How well she takes care of her team. How well she took care of me… she inspired me again.’
