How to watch the game Lions vs. Cowboys online from anywhere with a VPN

If you can’t view the game locally because of dimming constraints applied incorrectly, you may need a different way to view the game, and this is where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to prevent your ISP from throttling your speed on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it’s also a great idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to Wi-Fi and want to add an extra layer of privacy to your devices and inputs.

With a VPN, you can virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to access the game. So, if your ISP or mobile operator has assigned you an IP address that incorrectly indicates your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can solve this problem by giving you an IP address in your correct blackout zone. Most VPNs like ours Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPNit is very easy to do.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You need to make sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even if the VPNs are legitimate, the streaming service can terminate the account of anyone it believes is circumventing properly applied disconnection restrictions.

Lions vs Cowboys live streaming in USA

Game Lions vs. The Cowboys are on CBS this week, so in addition to a VPN, you’ll need one live TV streaming service hosted by the local CBS affiliate that is televising the game. The most inexpensive such service is Paramount Plus. You will need to subscribe to the Paramount Plus Essential or Premium plans to be able to watch the game (or the old plan with limited ads).

Paramount Plus has two main options: Essential for $5 per month ($50 per year paid annually) and Premium for $10 per month ($100 per year paid annually). Both offer live NFL games, though the cheaper Essential version lacks live CBS channels, ad-free content for streaming on demand, or the ability to download shows to watch offline later.

Since either option works for NFL games, if all you want is football, the cheaper Essential option is fine.

Read our Paramount Plus review.

Many others live TV streaming services also broadcast local CBS stations, namely YouTube TV, Hulu Plus Live TV, DirecTV Stream and FuboTV. They all cost more than Paramount Plus, but they also carry more channels, including football channels like Fox, ESPN, NFL Network and/or RedZone. Check out ours a guide to broadcasting live TV channels for details.

Quick tips for streaming Lions vs. Cowboys with a VPN

  • With four variables in play – your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN – experience and success can vary.
  • We successfully tested the game using the ExpressVPN server in Dallas, so this is a place you should use.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as the default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for a city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble loading a game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewport, there are two things you can try to quickly fix. First, sign in to your streaming subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is the address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address registered to your account. Second, some smart TVs like Roku don’t have VPN apps that can be installed directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll need to install a VPN on the router or mobile hotspot you’re using (such as your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network will now show up in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing a VPN on your router. In some cases, when using Smart TV services, after installing a cable network sports application, you will be asked to confirm a digital code or click on a link sent to your email address in your Smart TV file. Having a VPN on your router will also help here, as both devices will be in the right place.
  • And remember that browsers can often give away your location despite using a VPN, so make sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to access your services. We usually recommend Brave.

How we test VPN streaming for Sunday NFL games

For every game we use a combination of ExpressVPN and Paramount Plus (for CBS games) or Sling TV Blue (for Fox games). With the help of cards on 506 Sports, we determine which servers are nearby and connect to one of them, then fire up the streaming service and tune in to our local CBS or Fox affiliate. If the channel passes, then it is successful and we report the results above. We also screenshot the relevant TV Guide listing (see above) either on the local CBS affiliate website or on Sling TV.
