They came back.

After more than two years of juggling Zoom processes during the coronavirus pandemic, the Los Angeles and Long Beach harbor commissions have announced they will return to their public meeting rooms starting next session.

Long Beach Commissioners will meet on Monday, October 24th at 1:30 pm for their regular meeting at the Bob Foster Community Chambers, 411 W. Ocean Blvd.

The Los Angeles Port Commission, which held its meeting Thursday, Oct. 20, will meet again at 9 a.m. Nov. 3 at the Port of Los Angeles headquarters, 425 S. Palos Verdes St., in San Pedro.

Along with resuming face-to-face meetings with public participation, both bodies will also continue to offer live webcasts and video recordings of meetings that have been a staple since before the pandemic.

Meeting places have been closed to the public since the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, and most government meetings have moved to remote online meetings. Speakers had to call in to comment on agenda items, a process that was often cumbersome and confusing as people learned to navigate mute settings.

The remote meetings coincided with California Governor Gavin Newsom’s March 4, 2020 declaration of a state of emergency due to the pandemic. The governor recently said he intends to rescind the order in February.
