Lifeguards in one southern California town is being hailed as heroes after rescuing a small dog stranded in the ocean and washed ashore.
A video posted on social media shows a Long Beach lifeguard holding a small white dog on a board as the animal shivers from the cold.
The incident happened Saturday around 6 p.m. when officials received a call about a small dog running around in the area. Upon arrival, they found the puppy in the ocean.
That’s when one lifeguard didn’t hesitate to put on his suit and jump into action, rescuing the puppy and bringing him safely to shore.
“Long Beach lifeguards are heroes. Cheers,” one person wrote on Facebook.

Social media users were quick to thank the rescuers for saving the puppy’s life
There was a video placed by the Long Beach Fire Department late Saturday night.
According to the report, lifeguards were present when the dog ended up in the water.
“When personnel arrived, they saw the dog escape into the ocean and begin to swim out to sea,” the report said.
The rescuer on duty quickly rushed to help the animal, which ended up on the shore.
“Lifeguard 7 donned a wetsuit, grabbed a rescue board and buoy and went to rescue the small white dog,” the Long Beach Fire Department said.
The dog made it to the swim line in the ocean before a nearby boat crew could assist with the rescue.
The boat crew helped secure the animal with the rescuers and on the rescue board so the keeper could swim to land.
The video quickly gained thousands of views on social networks.
Commenters also added their two cents, sharing their gratitude for the rescuers and their anger at the dog’s owner.

However, the fire department said on Sunday that the dog was successfully reunited with its owner.
