Man arrested in Westminster for hate crime and attempted arson – New Santa Ana

On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 11:45 a.m., Westminster Police officers responded to the area of McFadden Avenue and Oakcliff Drive in connection with the assault investigation.

Police officers identified the suspect, Dan Nguyenin the area of Bouchard Street and Westminster Avenue. Officers attempted to stop Nguyen, but he did not yield and a short chase ensued.

The investigation revealed that the victim was sitting in his vehicle when Nguyen approached him on foot and made a derogatory comment about Hispanics before throwing a cup of gasoline at him. Nguyen tried to light the gasoline with a lighter, but the victim drove off, preventing the fire.

Nguyen was taken into custody without further incident and was uninjured and booked into the Orange County Jail.
