Monterey Bay FC hosted Phoenix Rising FC on Wednesday night at Cardinale Stadium as the Union look to make the playoffs. Monterey Bay’s Christian Voleski scored the first goal in the ninth minute. Phoenix responded immediately with a penalty goal in the 15th minute. game ahead 1-1. MBFC wasted no time in attacking as Grant Robinson scored in the 20th minute to put the Union team back in front. MBFC said it was a special moment for Robinson, who scored his first professional goal. However, Phoenix held on as they converted their second penalty in the 40th minute to level the score at 2-2. Monterey Bay came right back into the game late in the half when Christian Voleski scored his second goal of the night to give MBFC a 3-2 lead. At the start of the second half, Phoenix scored in the 76th minute to level again at 3-3MBFC lost their top scorer in the match in the 82nd minute. Voleski was forced to leave the game with an apparent leg injury. Monterey Bay had one last chance in stoppage time when Seku Kone converted a penalty. He missed. The match ended in a 3-3 draw. FC Monterey Bay missed an opportunity to move into seventh place in the USL Championship West Division standings. The Union remains in contention for the playoffs despite the draw.
