Do you like thrillers in which you read Reddit theories about their endings? I have a simple request.
Stop scrolling through any streaming service you watched, log in Coherence As soon as possible – it’s free for subscribers, right now. I know. I just watched … for the fourth time.and watch the 2013 low-budget science fiction film
The initial premise of Coherence is quite simple. Several friends meet for dinner the same night when a mysterious comet is to fly overhead. It begins, like many indie films, with a troubled love story, tensions between the former and a witty joke.
Then the electricity is cut off. It gets weird. Act Two.
Unexplained events take place while the ensemble of characters is fighting for the restoration of power. Nothing is as it seemed. Some are beginning to doubt where they are, others are more worried World Health Organization they are. This is not a movie about the chatter of old friends. It’s a story about how they come face to face with the horrific truth of their reality.
If I shared anything else, I would risk mass spoilers about the shocking discoveries discovered during the film. But I can assure you that the on-screen confusion is strong enough to make you question your own mind.
I am only slightly exaggerating.
The next hour or so is full of plot twists that may rival the 2010 “Tent Island”. The film also skillfully hints at scientific – and rather philosophical – concepts that probably came to the mind of the late Stephen Hawking.
Coherence connects the social, personal, and existential consequences that would result from a complex theory of space and time with a savage mystery. Sprinkled with red herring, Easter eggs and a few ambiguities, “Coherence” is perhaps one of the most exciting sci-fi movies I’ve ever seen.
And believe me, I put down a few science fiction IMDB lists, carefully following them in order.
Perhaps I can sell you the fact that Coherence, which is sometimes approaching horror, was made with a small budget of only $ 50,000 and shot in just five days. For context: Alphonse Cuarón’s 2013 film “Gravity” was shot for $ 100 million.
I recently watched low-budget science fiction films because I found that what these films lack in the theater, they overcompensate in history. “Wax” “Operation Avalanche” (2016), “Another Land” (2011) and “Primer” (2004).
However, consistency became the film from which my journey began.
Interstellar may have offered a vivid image of a giant, iconic wave that would almost destroy the main characters to the tune of Hans Zimmer. The Martian probably stole your heart with his stunning reflection of arid Mars among the misty blanket. And “Arrival” may have been the first time you cried over a shadowy alien who was making some kind of ink gesture.
But Coherence elegantly tells the story of a group of friends who struggle with reality, guided by the terrible twists and turns that reality can take – without the help of CGI, only from one place and only with the voices of actors.
Director James Ward Burke even decided to abandon the script for a quiet experimental film. “Every day, instead of getting a script, the actors received a page of notes for their individual character, be it a background story or information about their motivations,” he said. told IndieWire.
Because the actors remained in the dark about how the story unfolds, any stress and bewilderment in their plays is real. The chaotic mess of the film was in fact occurs during filming.
Consistency will allow you to guess along with the actors, cause audible sighs and make you feel like a sci-fi spy. A few hours after the captions are over you may experience chills if previously unnoticed hints and nuances slowly overwhelm you.
In fact, from one scene I have goosebumps. You will know which one.
