With ~15 acres of public waterfront parks at Oakland’s Howard Terminal, events like Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival can be seen regularly. Larger events can cover the entire spectrum of development from park space to the actual football field.
I think it’s important to cover events in other cities to get a perspective of what’s happening in our city.
After visiting San Diego’s PetCo Park in 2016, I immediately saw the promise of what Howard Terminal could become. San Diego’s Gas Lantern District has many similarities to the Jack London Square District. Across the channel from PetCo, Coronado Island looks an awful lot like Alameda. The opportunities were further enhanced during visits to Wrigley Field and the Wrigleyville area. Also, Oakland can take over from T-Mobile Park and Seattle and learn to coexist with its port neighbors.
