Opinion: San Diego needs an ambulance service it can count on

Re”A San Diego ambulance provider faces hefty fines for slow response times. Here is how it is planned to improve them” (September 17): When the San Diego City Council selected Falck USA as the city’s new ambulance provider, it did so because Falck promised a much higher level of service.

However, since taking office last November, Falck has struggled to meet response time requirements and now blames just about everything and everyone for his problems.

The bottom line is that this is a matter of public safety. If Falck cannot meet its obligations, Mayor Todd Gloria and the City Council should step in and replace Falck with an ambulance company that can.
