Original Starsky & Hutch star David Soule wants him and co-star to star in new Fox series reboot

Read Time:4 Minute, 21 Second

Days after it was announced that Fox is developing a reboot of Starsky and Hutch starring a female lead, one of the original film’s stars is speaking out.

David Soule, who played Detective Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson alongside Paul Michael Glazer’s Detective Dave Starsky, seemed to disagree with the reboot.

The original series ran for four seasons on ABC from 1975 to 1979, following the protagonists, struggling detectives crime on the streets of fictional Bay City, California in a bright red Gran Torino, with Antonio Fargas as their informant, Hagi the Bear.

The show was also rebooted in a 2004 feature film of the same name, with Ben Stiller plays Starsky and Owen Wilson as Hutch, with Soule and Glazer in cameos.

Now that the series is on its way to a reboot — which is still in the works, with a final decision yet to be made — Soule took to Twitter to suggest he and his co-star return to the role … instead of new female characters .

“Each article mentions the ‘original’ actors by name. So why not just reboot Paul and me as a couple of old farts solving stupid crimes in the dorm we’d be living in now? Who better to handle Starsky and Hutch than him and me?’ The soul was chirping.

The tweet received more than 31,000 likes, and original Wonder Woman star Linda Carter chimed in, replying to Soule’s tweet: “I would watch it.”

Pop film critic Joe Leydon tweeted: “Don’t give it up baby!” and comedian Dave Foley added: “Sounds great. Can I play a 60-year-old upstart who thinks he knows everything but has seen nothing. PS watched every episode of the original.’

The reboot, described as a “modern reimagining” of the original, follows two female detectives, Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson.

While the original show was set in Bay City, the reboot is set in a desert town where the duo “solves crimes while staying true to their friendship, their weirdness.”

To top it all off, they’re also “trying to solve the mystery of who sent their parents to prison 15 years ago for a crime they didn’t commit.”

The original report didn’t specify if Sasha and Nicole were indeed Dave and Ken’s daughters in the original, though it certainly could have been possible.

The reboot will be written by Sam Sclaver ( The Prodigal Son ) and Elizabeth Peterson ( The Regular ), who will also serve as showrunners when it moves to series.
