Why the Oscars red carpet changed color to champagne for the 2023 ceremony
Hollywood’s A-listers arrive at Academy Awards in LADolby Theater didn’t walk the traditional red carpet on Sunday.
The color of the carpet this year was changed to champagne – a beige-yellowish color that got its name from the French sparkling wine.
This was the first instance of a carpet color change since 1961.
The Academy’s creative team decided that since celebrity arrivals are indoors and not outdoors, the carpet should evoke a sense of joy.
“We chose this beautiful color of sienna and saffron, which is reminiscent of a sunset, because it’s the sunset before the golden hour,” said creative director Lisa Love.
