Riley Keough says she lied about being able to sing when she auditioned for Daisy Jones & The Six
Riley Keough said she lied about being able to sing when she was cast in the new series of “Daisy Jones and Six” at the Four Seasons on Monday.
The 33-year-old actress appeared on a panel during a screening of the Prime Video show in New York at the 92nd Street Y, where she confessed how her audition went, People informed.
“I think I passed out at that meeting,” Keough, daughter of the late Lisa Marie and Danny Keough, said at the event. “I really don’t remember what happened. And then I auditioned like everyone else and lied to them and said I could sing.”
Keough was on a promotional tour in support of Amazon Prime’s new 10-episode miniseries, which focuses on the 1970s music scene in Los Angeles and inspired by Fleetwood Mac.
The campaign in support of the show came amid Keough’s ongoing rift with her grandmother Priscilla Presley over the will of her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley.
The latest: Riley Keough, 33, said she lied about being able to sing when she was cast in the new series of Daisy Jones and Six at the Four Seasons on Monday.
Keo, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, had no prior professional experience in music.
At the panel, she said she was unfamiliar with the 2019 novel Daisy Jones and Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
“I hadn’t read the book and my agent called me and said, ‘Hi, Sunshine is doing a show called Daisy Jones and Six,'” Keough said. “And at that moment… I had a weird cosmic drop-down. It was like, “You’re going to be Daisy on this show.”
She continued: “I didn’t know it was based on a book. I didn’t know anything about it. But then I got the book. I read the book, listened to the audiobook, and fell in love with it like everyone else.”
Executive producer Reese Witherspoon, 46, told the publication that Keough “completely changed for the role” in an “amazing” way.
“In real life, I mean, I have to make that distinction — she’s very quiet,” Witherspoon said. “She’s a very quiet, reserved person.”
Fellow star Sam Claflin, 36, called Keough “a pleasure to work with.”
“Honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better teammate,” said Claffin, who plays Billy Dunn on the show. “As much as she had that reputation in the family genes, she didn’t have a lot of musical experience herself, so we both had each other to lean on.”

The actress lost her mother Lisa Marie Presley last month after she went into cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California in January. She was also embroiled in a bitter feud with her grandmother Priscilla Presley over a will left by Lisa Marie.
The dispute arose because Keough and her brother Benjamin were appointed trustees of Lisa Marie’s estate in 2016, after she had been the sole trustee for years.
Benjamin committed suicide in 2020, meaning that the estate now belongs to Keough. Priscilla is contesting the 2016 amendment and questioned the authenticity of her late daughter’s signatures on the document.
“Riley has been mourning the loss of her mother and is heartbroken to deal with a trust dispute with a family member,” an insider told ET.
