Rishi Sunak last night said the love of his loving wife gets him through the day – as he admitted he “100 per cent” punches above his weight.

In his most personal interview, PM revealed how his other half Akshata Murthy gives him “extra support” to carry out grueling work “when things get tough”.

He told all about his romantic proposal during the clifftop walk Californiaand how he was a big fan of edgy romantic movies like Love really.

Rishi said Piers Morgan in an exclusive Downing Street interview with TalkTV: “Yes, I definitely hit above my average.

“I could not have done this work without her love and support.”

When you find out what love means to him, PM said: “There are many different aspects…

“What I’m probably most focused on right now, and what means the most to me right now, is the support she’s given me in this job.”

He spoke about when he got down on one knee in front of his now-wife while staying at a posh hotel in California.

The hotel in question is said to be a £750-a-night five-star Ritz-Carlton retreat – perched on clifftops and boasting two championship golf courses and panoramic views.

The Prime Minister said: “We got engaged in a place called Half Moon Bay – it was where we were students, we met when we were studying together in the Statesand we were walking around the area and looking at this beautiful fancy hotel that we never got to stay at.

“Then I surprised her and we went and stayed there.

“But before that, we went for a walk on the rocks and we were alone, and that’s when I proposed.”

A couple have two childrenKrishna and Anushka, and share theirs red lab, Nova.
