Canyon College Softball was represented by two selections in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association 2022, the all-American team of California College J.S. Ashlyn Hack and pitcher / useful player Alison Melgar included in a group of 26 awardees from across the state.

“Canyon” was one of seven teams, which included several players selected for the All-American team. The winners must be nominated by the NFCA head coach before being elected by voting coaches in their region. A full list of awardees is included here.

Hack finished the 2022 season with a .434 bat with 13 doubles, 10 triples and .727 percent drop in 42 games, including the postseason. She scored 39 IRBs and crossed the home table 45 times.

Her top 10 is second in the state, and her average score is fourth in the Western State Conference (WSC). The Central Field Participant also led the Canyons in total hits (62), runs and RBI and was second with a percentage of 0.454 from base.

Melgar starred for Cougar both on a plate and in a circle. In 40 games of the regular season, she posted an average of 0.426 with 15 doubles, 5 home runs and 35 RBIs. Her percentage of 0.460 at base was the highest at the club.

The two-way player also led his team out of the circle in 18 games (15 completed) with 13 wins, third place in the WSC, against five defeats. Melgar held a 2.85 ERA over 135 innings, providing 87 strikeouts and recording one save per season.

Canyon finished the regular season with a total score of 25-17-1 with a score of 8-4 in the conference game to take second place in the Western State Conference, the Eastern Division and move into the postseason for the ninth season in a row. In the first round of the regional playoffs of the California Public College of the SoCal Sports Association, the Cougars lost a series of three games against Canyon Santiago at number 7.
