A second hiker has gone missing on Mt Baldy – the same mountain where actor Julian Sands went missing – after a sheriff warned to stay away from the ‘extremely dangerous’ area

  • Jin Chun, 75, went missing after going on a solo hike on Sunday
  • Chang arrived at Mount Baldy with friends but was unable to return to the car at 2:00 p.m
  • On January 13, actor Julian Sands disappeared in the same area

Police are searching for a second hiker who went missing on Mount Baldy actor Julian Sands last seen.

75-year-old Jin Chung disappeared in the south of the country California mountain range on Sunday, less than two weeks after the sands. Police were unable to locate the actor despite helicopters and drones being deployed around the area.

Chang hiked alone on one of the difficult routes at 6 a.m. and did not meet his friends at the bus station in the car at 2 p.m.

Officers had previously warned tourists to stay away from the snow-covered mountain due to its “extremely dangerous” conditions.

A search party searched for Chung overnight Monday, “with negative results.”

The hunt for Chung will continue until Tuesday when the threat of high winds subsides.

Police said Chung arrived at Mt Baldy with two others before separating on Sunday.

The group agreed to split up and meet in the car by 2:00 p.m. Chung has not been able to return or contact the others.

Over the weekend, police were unable to locate the actor using infrared devices.

United States federal and state agencies joined the search deterioration of weather conditions and danger of avalanches which previously stopped the work of ground crews.

Father of three children who is known for appearances in The Killing Fields, Arachnophobia, 24, and Smallville., went missing around 7:30 p.m. on January 13 after failing to return from a hike up Mount Baldy.

The county sheriff’s department said ping from the actor’s phone appeared to indicate he was on the move, heading further into the Baldy Bowl Highlands on the day he was reported missing

Police also obtained vital phone records showing the West Yorkshire-born actor was still on the move on Sunday January 15, but they have been unable to pick up a signal since then due to a dead battery.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department previously warned hikers to “think twice and heed warnings” if weather conditions worsen in the area.

The department said its search and rescue teams responded to 14 calls in and around Mount Baldy in the past four weeks.

Two tourists have reportedly died in the past four weeks amid deteriorating conditions.

Krystal Paula Gonzalez, a mother of four known as the “Queen of Dance Hikes,” famously slipped and fell 700 feet into Baldy Bowl.

A helicopter was immediately dispatched and soon found Gonzalez “down on a steep and icy hillside, surrounded by many helpful hikers who were doing what they could to help,” according to the incident report.

On Dec. 28, Jarrett Choi, 43, was hiking the Ice House Canyon Trail when he fell near the Ice House Saddle ridgeline.

He was found two days later after a search made difficult by extreme weather conditions.
