Sequoia National Park will restore access to the Giant Forest
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) — The public will be able to visit the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park starting this weekend after storm damage on the Generals Highway is repaired.
The famous grove of massive redwoods was closed in early January when devastating storms hit California.
Public access is scheduled to resume Saturday, the National Park Service said.
The giant forest is at a high elevation, and officials advised visitors to expect wintry conditions that may require tire chains as well as delays.
One section of the highway has been converted to one lane, and two-lane traffic is planned to be restored no earlier than May. Also, the section of road between Sequoia and nearby Kings Canyon is closed for the winter season.
