Stanford medical professor criticizes Gavin Newsom for keeping kids out of school due to COVID
A professor of medicine at Stanford University is bluffing California Governor Gavin Newsom for a policy against COVID-19 that kept his children out of school for over a year.
Dr. Jay Bhattacharya took Twitter Sunday to criticize a democrat a lawmaker whose state had some of the toughest lockdowns in the country.
“Haw. @GavinNewsom kept my kids out of public schools for almost a year and a half without proper scientific or epidemiological justification. His educational performance is the worst in the country,” the professor wrote on Twitter.
Bhattacharya responded to a tweet by Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who shared photos of herself and her husband at two public schools.
“Focusing on the whole child, these schools build on CA’s commitment to giving ALL children the best possible start in life,” Sibel Newsom said in a tweet.

A tweet by a woman who describes herself in her bio as “California’s First Partner” drew a backlash from Dr. Bhattacharya, who is the director of Stanford Center for Demography and Economics of Health and Aging.
Other Twitter users agreed with him, accusing the liberal politician and his wife of hypocrisy.
“He turned education into a terrible disaster. Except for his own kids who went to private school in 2020,” one person replied.
“Audacity of @JenSiebelNewsom to post something like that,” the Twitter user continued.
Replies to a tweet sent by “Partner One” were limited to the people mentioned in the tweet. Some still referred to Sibel News when citing her post.
“Narrator in a low voice: They send their kids to private school,” one person said.
In accordance with Politics, Newsom and his wife send their children to a private school in Sacramento County. In the fall of 2020, Newsom confirmed that he and his wife were sending their children back to the classroom months after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Not pictured: Her children, who do not go to public school. So not ALL kids,” another person said in a tweet quote.

“Focusing on the whole child, these schools build on CA’s commitment to giving ALL children the best possible start in life,” Jennifer Ziebel Newsom said in a tweet.

Newsom and other liberal lawmakers in California have faced fierce criticism over their strict shutdowns and COVID-19 policies that have remained in place months after other states began easing.

As of February 21, California’s state of emergency, which was first imposed in March 2020, has not yet officially ended.
Governor Newsom announced in October that the order would be repealed on February 28, three years after it was implemented.
“The state of emergency has been an effective and necessary tool that we have used to protect our state, and we would not have gotten to this point without it,” Newsom said at the time.
“With the operational readiness we have put in place and the measures we will continue to implement going forward, California is ready to phase out this tool,” he continued.
