VICTORVILLE, CA (VVNG.com) — A 61-year-old North Fork, Calif., man was arrested after leading police on a dangerous high-speed chase going the wrong way on the I-notway 15 freeway, officials said.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, Barstow Police attempted to contact the driver, later identified as Rick Dixon, of a white Dodge Ram pickup attached to a stolen U-Haul trailer. The driver fled, and a chase began through the streets of the city.

During the pursuit, Dixon disabled the trailer and continued to elude officers. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded and took over the chase as Dixon drove erratically on the freeway.

According to the news release, “Dixon was traveling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, made several U-turns and drove into oncoming traffic numerous times, creating an extremely dangerous situation for other motorists.”

The suspect exited the freeway and drove down Carrier Road, where CHP officers deployed spike strips. The Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Unit (SED) assisted the CHP in apprehending the suspect.

“Deputies from the SED fired two shots into the car’s engine block, trying to disable it. Shortly after Dixon struck the curb at the I-15 E Street exit, the vehicle became disabled,” the release said.
