American Canyon High swimming teams recently defeated university divisions in the Vine Valley Athletics League Championships. The guys were co-champions with Vintage, but were unbeaten in double meetings.

Last weekend, “Wolves” sent 11 swimmers to the North Coast Championship.

“It was interesting to bring in so many swimmers from both teams and a lot of experience because we haven’t been able to perform in the last two years,” said head coach Sarah Wolfe. “Our relays and some individuals had great races, but unfortunately did not make it into the top 16, with the exception of one swimmer, Gabriel Cueva. (He) is a phenomenal athlete, student and teammate. In the breaks between races, he even studied for the AP calculation exam. “

Cueva, a junior, was seeded under the ninth in the 100s chest on Friday. In the test, he finished eighth and reached the final on the second day with a score of 58.69.

He finished Saturday in eighth place out of 40 swimmers with a score of 58.7.
