Ten people were temporarily evicted from a National City apartment building on Wednesday after a woman with a leg spasm crashed into a structure, fire officials said.

The accident was reported around 9 a.m. on Laurel Avenue south of Divisional Street.

The driver told emergency services that she ran into the building when she had a leg spasm, OnScene TV was told by the head of the National City Fire Service, Sergio Mora.

According to him, there was a woman in the apartment who was hit by a car. “She is very lucky that she was not hurt,” Mora said.

A woman who lived in the apartment told OnScene that she was lying on the bed with her dog when the car crashed into the room. She said she jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom with the dog. None of them were injured.

Eight of the displaced residents are expected to be admitted back to the building sometime Wednesday after it was secured, said Battalion Chief Robert Hernandez. The two people living in the apartment, which was damaged by the car, will have to stay elsewhere, he said.

The driver refused to be transported to the hospital for treatment. The damage from the disaster is estimated at $ 60,000, Hernandez said.
