The contents of a building in an industrial area of Oceanside caught fire, but the fire was contained thanks to a sprinkler system, officials said Sunday.

The Oceanside Fire Department responded to a report of a commercial fire at 8:02 p.m. Saturday in the 3800 block of Ocean Ranch Boulevard, Battalion Chief Wesley McGee said.

According to him, firefighters found light smoke coming from the building.

“The alarm was quickly upgraded to a commercial fire,” McGee said. “Three more fire engines, a ladder truck, an ambulance and a battalion commander were added to the call.”

Once inside, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Apart from the content, the structure itself was not involved.

“This shows the importance of having a fire protection system in place,” McGee said.

Neither civilians nor firefighters were injured, the cause of the fire is being investigated.
