The monkey, which was believed to be the dead man’s pet, apparently couldn’t let go – and we mean that literally, because it held on to the body as if it could come back to life.

Check out this footage, allegedly shot in Sri Lanka, where a guy’s funeral is taking place and his body is lying in an open coffin with people around. There is also a langur sitting on the edge looking down at what some say is its owner/master.

It’s impossible to actually verify this, but it certainly matches what the primate is doing here… caressing the human and trying to wake him up, almost as if he’s mourning himself.

At one point the langur leans down and appears to kiss the man’s face, and later he even grabs the boy’s hand and tries to shake it a bit. When people try to pull the monkey away, it stands firm and refuses to go easily … and this sweet moment is moving people on the Internet.

If there is in fact a past relationship between these two as the internet suggests… then this is quite an eye opener. You always hear about creatures being able to feel sadness and loss, and this seems to confirm that.
