‘They Need to Go…Today’: Biden Advisers Face Criticism Following Debate Fallout
A prominent donor to Joe Biden has harshly criticized three of the US president’s closest advisors following a widely criticized debate performance in Atlanta. Millions watched as Biden appeared weak and hoarse opposite Donald Trump, raising concerns about his campaign’s direction.
Over the weekend, the Biden family gathered at Camp David for urgent discussions regarding the president’s declining poll numbers and the effectiveness of his campaign team. Despite public displays of unity, questions persisted about the advisors responsible for preparing Biden for the debate.
John Morgan, a key Democratic donor allied with Biden’s brother Frank, openly condemned what he called “grifters” among Biden’s advisors. He specifically targeted former White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, senior advisor Anita Dunn, and Biden’s attorney, Bob Bauer.
‘TITLE FIGHT’
Morgan took to social media to criticize Biden’s debate preparations, particularly the format chosen, which he described as disastrous and advantageous to Trump. He accused Dunn and Bauer of misleading the president, labeling their influence as “gross” and alleging political malpractice.
In an interview with the New York Times, Morgan compared Biden’s debate readiness to a fighter forced into a sauna before a title bout. He blamed Klain, Bauer, and Dunn for the debate’s shortcomings. “It would be like if you took a prizefighter who was going to have a title fight and put him in a sauna for 15 hours then said, ‘Go fight,’” he told the NYT. “I believe that the debate’s failures are solely on Ron Klain, Bob Bauer, and Anita Dunn.”
Despite internal criticism, Biden reportedly retains trust in his advisors, including those directly implicated in the debate fallout. His wife, Jill Biden, has emerged as a strong advocate for his continued candidacy, reassuring donors in New York that despite the debate’s optics, the election campaign would persist.
Biden’s debate performance, marked by faltering delivery and perceived cognitive lapses, caused panic within Democratic ranks and sparked speculation about alternative nominees. However, at a subsequent rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, Biden admitted shortcomings in his debate performance but reaffirmed his commitment to the race, receiving cheers from supporters.
Jill Biden’s unwavering support has been crucial, publicly dismissing doubts about her husband’s fitness for office and affirming his capability to lead. Despite growing scrutiny over Biden’s cognitive abilities, including a poll showing widespread skepticism about his fitness for another term, the Bidens remain resolute in their campaign. Meanwhile, top Democrats have also backed Biden, ruling out the possibility of replacing him as the Democratic nominee.
