Two days after a 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit Mexico’s central Pacific coast, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck the same region early Thursday morning, the US Geological Survey said.

Thursday’s earthquake episode was near Michoacán. Unlike Monday’s earthquake, no tsunami was reported after Thursday’s earthquake.

Despite being hundreds of miles from the epicenter, Mexico City Mayor Claudia Scheinbaum reported two deaths from the quake on Thursday.

She said one of the deaths was due to a woman who fell down the stairs during the earthquake. The second fatality was reported to be that of a police officer who suffered a fatal heart attack while being shaken.

In addition to two strong earthquakes, dozens of moderate aftershocks were felt in the region this week.
