Triathlon champion swaps leggings and trainers for £20,000 evening dress as ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ is up for nine Oscars
Leslie Patterson, the triathlon champion, was more used to wearing leggings and sneakers than an evening dress until recently.
But tonight the screenwriter will be celebrating his astonishing nine Oscar nominations for the film All is quiet on the western frontwearing a colorful £20,000 dress by the Bulgarian designer who heard her being interviewed on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. BAFTA nominations earlier this year.
Ms Patterson, who is originally from Stirling but now lives in Los Angeles, Californiawill wear a vibrant yellow, pink and red dress that was made for her by fashion label KolchagovBarba, who also made her spectacular BAFTA gown.
The dress even boasts a genuine 18-carat gold clasp, worth £1,000 alone.
The dress, which was flown to Los Angeles last week by designers Svyatoslav Kolchago and Emilio Barba, took a total of 80 hours to complete and was hand-sewn to fit her body last Friday.

Mr Barba told The Mail on Sunday: “My girlfriend was listening to Woman’s Hour when Lesley was being interviewed. She said she was very excited to go to the Oscars.
“They asked who will dress you?” And she said I don’t have anyone yet…my friend suggested we contact her because she’s so amazing and I joked, ok, I’ll call her.
“We set up a Zoom call and showed her what we do and she loved it. Then we planned to meet in London the following week and she said, “Oh, by the way, I don’t have a dress for the BAFTAs either. We were like the BAFTAs are next week! We told her not to worry and that we would look after her at the BAFTAS as well.

“She came to our studios in London, tried on a few options, from the beginning you have to know what the person is like, so we have fittings with the client, it’s so important to see how they move, what they feel comfortable in. She liked what we tried.”
Mr Barba also said that a sober Ms Patterson, who worked as a waitress at the Oscars in Hollywood a decade ago, celebrated her BAFTA win last month with hot chocolate.
He said: “Lesley has a bubbly personality and is so lovely and down to earth. After the BAFTAS we went for hot chocolate and she brought her BAFTA with her. We were there in Soho with her award, drinking hot chocolate.’
