UC Berkeley rejects the group’s offer to admit another 1,000 students
BERKLEY, Calif. (AP) – A group of residents who have successfully challenged UC Berkeley to limit student enrollment have proposed allowing another 1,000 students next school year.
Save Berkeley Neighborhoods said Saturday it is ready to settle a lawsuit with the prestigious state university when UC Berkeley completes its efforts to withdraw from a court ruling this week limiting enrollment to the 2020-21 academic year.
The decision means the university will have to accept about 3,000 fewer students than planned.
A UC Berkeley spokesman rejected the group’s proposal, saying enrollment decisions were not up to a “small group of parties”. The university is appealing the court’s decision.
