The Harvard Kennedy School reports that Ash Carter, the Obama administration’s defense secretary who opened combat positions to women, has died at the age of 68. In December 2015, after three years of training and debate, Carter ordered the military to open all jobs to women, removing the last barriers to women serving in combat, including the most dangerous and grueling command posts.
