The annual Haute Dog Howl’oween parade returns to Long Beach this weekend, where dogs and their human companions will show off their best costumes at Marina Vista Park for the 21st year.
The annual costume parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the park, 5355 E. Eliot St. The parade will follow a concrete bike path that runs through the park from Colorado to Elliott streets.
Registration for the event will be held on site, near the starting line, at 1:00 p.m. Pre-registration is available on the website hautedogs.org.
The application can be one dog, a group of dogs or dogs and their owners. Each dog must be registered separately and paid for at the Haute Dog registration tent.
The Haute Dog Organization is a network of dog owners, lovers, educators, rescuers and advocates working to use educational events and activities to inspire a better understanding and appreciation of dogs, encourage responsible ownership practices and offer hands-on adoption and rescue opportunities. according to to his site.

There will also be food trucks, vendors and pet adoptions for dogs and cats from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
About 400 costumed dogs took part in the 2021 parade in front of about 3,000 spectators. It raised about $13,000 for CAT. This year, the organizers expect the participation of at least 450 dressed dogs.
Attending the event is free.
People can also walk the parade for free if they don’t have a dog. Otherwise, the cost to enter is $10 per dog in advance, $20 per dog at the event, and $35 per dog for pre-parade VIPs. Front row seats to the event will cost $5 the day of the event.
Dogs will be judged by the Teen, Miss, Miss, and Mrs. Long Beach, as well as the Teen, Miss, Mrs., and Mrs. Cities of Southern California.
Judges will make decisions based on originality, showmanship, costume details and first impression. Finalists will be the judges’ favorite entries based on best dog costume, best dog walker costume, best group (any combination of at least two dogs or people), and best float (a float is any dog or dogs riding on non-motorized vehicles such as a wagon or cart).
Culturally insensitive costumes will not be allowed in the parade.
All dogs must remain leased, rabies and other vaccinations must be current, and ID tags must be worn at all times; aggressive dogs are not allowed, costumes must be safe and comfortable for dogs, and puppies younger than four months and without vaccinations are not allowed.
Dogs that are older, have flat faces, have breathing problems, or are wearing very hot costumes may pass the judges and leave the parade route. Haute Dogs says pet safety is a top priority.
