Fresno, Calif. (KFSN) — Time is running out in California to make sure your voice is heard in the upcoming elections.

Monday was the last day to register to vote by mail.

Beginning Tuesday and ending on Election Day, Nov. 8, Fresno County residents can conditionally register and vote.

This can only be done in person at an election office or, beginning Saturday, at any of the 11 polling stations.

After your conditional voter registration application is verified, your advance ballot will be counted and your registration will be active.

There are currently nearly 499,000 active registered voters in Fresno County, and that number could grow.

In November 2018, there were 456 thousand of them, and in November 2014 – 416 thousand.

James Kuss of the Register of Voters said the increase in registered voters is consistent with the automatic registration of eligible applicants at the DMV.

However, he says the same counting program sometimes ends up with voters holding two ballots.

He says those people should call the election board to determine which ballot to fill out.

“Every one of those ballots we send out has a unique number on the return envelope,” Kuss said. “The first one we sent was voided, and if you return it, it won’t count, at least not right away.”

Election Day is exactly 2 weeks away, so there’s still time to make sure you can vote.

Early voting has begun downtown, and you can drop your ballot into one of 66 drop boxes across the county.

Starting Saturday, 11 daytime polling stations will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All ballots must be submitted or postmarked by 8:00 PM on November 8th to ensure they are counted.
